Students at Gaziantep University (GAÜN) Oğuzeli Vocational School (MYO) set an example for the community through their commitment to the “Donate Blood, Save a Life” project.
As part of the “Give Blood, Save a Life” Social Awareness Project (TDP), coordinated by GAÜN Oğuzeli MYO instructors Şeyma Gül and Ayşe Çoban, along with Assistant Professor Derya Çevik Taşdemir, Ömer Şimşek, Blood Donor Recruitment Specialist at the Gaziantep Turkish Red Crescent, organized an informational seminar for the students.
During the seminar, the vital importance of blood donation was emphasized, as well as the fact that stem cell donation serves as a source of hope for patients with difficult-to-treat diseases. Following the presentation, students showed keen interest in the organized blood and stem cell donation campaign.
Project coordinator Lecturer Şeyma Gül stated that the seminar raised awareness among students by highlighting the importance of blood and stem cell donation. Referring to the role of blood donation in saving lives, Gül said that stem cell donation offers a ray of hope, particularly in the treatment of diseases such as leukemia.
Instructor Ayşe Çoban noted that the event made a significant contribution to promoting volunteer donation and raising public awareness.
Assistant Professor Derya Çevik Taşdemir, meanwhile, expressed her satisfaction with the students’ keen interest.
GAÜN Oğuzeli Vocational School Director Prof. Dr. Tuba Direkci emphasized the importance of equipping students not only with professional knowledge but also with a sense of social responsibility, saying: “The ‘Donate Blood, Save a Life’ project is a concrete and meaningful example of this philosophy. I would like to thank all our academic staff, students, and Red Crescent officials who contributed to this valuable project. As the Oğuzeli Vocational School, we will continue to support similar projects that benefit the community and encourage our students’ participation in such activities.”
