A conference titled “The Turkish Human Rights and Equality Agency within the Framework of Human Rights Protection Mechanisms” was held at the Oğuzeli Vocational School of Gaziantep University (GAÜN).
Coordinated by Lecturers Ali Altunbaş and Ayşe Bahar from the Department of Law at the Oğuzeli Vocational School, the conference featured Mustafa Aslan, an expert at the Gaziantep Office of the Turkish Human Rights and Equality Agency (TİHEK), as the keynote speaker.
In his opening remarks, Lecturer Ali Altunbaş stated, “Human rights are inextricably linked to a person’s dignity and integrity; they are absolute rights that can be invoked against anyone at any time, and are inalienable, indivisible, indispensable, and inviolable. Protecting these rights is just as important as possessing them,” and shared the mechanisms for protecting human rights under Turkish law with the students. Mustafa Aslan, meanwhile, explained the structure, duties, and authorities of the Turkish Human Rights and Equality Agency (TİHEK) during the conference, providing examples of how to file complaints with the agency and citing specific decisions issued by TİHEK.
Prof. Dr. Memet Şahin, Director of the GAÜN Oğuzeli Vocational School, noted that they organized this conference to raise awareness about human rights—an issue that is gaining increasing importance today—on the occasion of December 10, World Human Rights Day, and and thanked the faculty members who contributed to the event as well as Mustafa Aslan, the conference speaker.
