Gaziantep University (GAÜN) As part of the Social Awareness Project (TDP) titled “Consumer Rights Awareness in a Pandemic Environment,” led by Ali Balkan, an instructor in the Department of Law at the Oğuzeli Vocational School of Higher Education, an informational campaign regarding consumer rights was conducted on social media platforms.
As part of the TDP, students in the Correctional and Security Services Program prepared an informational brochure containing concise and to-the-point information on one of the consumer rights. The brochures were shared on social media platforms by all students to reach and inform as many people as possible. In addition, the brochures were compiled to create a booklet titled “Consumer Rights.”
Noting that the importance of consumer rights has increased significantly during the pandemic, Lecturer Ali Balkan said the following in his speech: “Measures taken against the pandemic—particularly restrictions on going out and the mandatory use of masks in public spaces—have led people to turn to e-commerce. As a result, issues related to consumer rights have also increased. The overall objective of this project is to increase the target audience’s knowledge and awareness of consumer rights. For this reason, the aim is to reach the target audience and draw attention to consumer rights, particularly those related to e-commerce. Through this project, our goal is to provide our target audience with practical knowledge on how to exercise the consumer rights they need most. When our students participated in this project, they first learned about consumer rights themselves and then shared the knowledge they gained. In this way, they worked to ensure our social awareness project achieved its goal. “
Prof. Dr. Memet Şahin, Director of Oğuzeli Vocational School, noted that these events, held every year during the summer, have attracted significant interest from citizens. He stated that, together with the students, they aimed to raise awareness on these issues by preparing brochures and posters that benefit the community. Prof. Dr. Şahin thanked Lecturer Dr. Ali Balkan for his dedicated work on the Social Awareness Project and wished the students, who put in great effort to prepare the brochures and the ‘Consumer Rights’ booklet, success in their professional careers.
