Gaziantep University (GAÜN) Students from the Criminal Justice and Security Services Program in the Department of Law at the Oğuzeli Vocational School participated in a technical field trip to the Kahramanmaraş Training Center of the Penitentiary Institutions under the Ministry of Justice, where they received hands-on, career-oriented training.

Organized by Dr. Ali Balkan and Ali Altunbaş, instructors at the Oğuzeli Vocational School, Bülent Delibalta, Public Prosecutor and Director of the Kahramanmaraş Training Center of the Penitentiary Institutions, gave a presentation to the students on the structure, operations, and responsibilities of the institution.

As part of the technical field trip, students were given a tour of the Education Center campus and introduced to its activities. Specialized staff working at the Education Center provided the students with various hands-on training sessions. In the first part of the training, the use of security systems and devices employed at correctional facility entrances, as well as key considerations for detecting prohibited items, were demonstrated through hands-on exercises. In the second part, practical demonstrations were conducted on conducting cell searches in correctional facilities, locating hiding places for prohibited items or substances, and conducting searches in response to escape attempts. In the final part of the training, students participated in a professional intervention exercise, during which they were provided with shields, helmets, batons, and Robocop uniforms.

In his evaluation of the field trip, Lecturer Dr. Ali Balkan stated, “We carried out a highly beneficial exercise in terms of transforming the theoretical knowledge of Correctional Services Program students into practical skills. I would like to extend my sincere thanks to Bülent Delibalta, Director of the Kahramanmaraş Training Center of the Penitentiary Institutions, and the training team for their close cooperation and hospitality.”

Prof. Dr. Memet Şahin, Director of the GAÜN Oğuzeli Vocational School, emphasized that technical field trips are crucial for enhancing students’ professional knowledge and stated that such activities will continue.
