Gaziantep University (GAÜN) Students from the Criminal Justice and Security Services program in the Department of Law at the Oğuzeli Vocational School organized a technical field trip to the Gaziantep Probation and Parole Directorate under the coordination of Lecturer Ali Altunbaş and Lecturer Dr. Ali Balkan.
Vedat Zencir, Director of the Gaziantep Probation and Parole Directorate, and Yunus Kurt, a member of the Probation and Parole staff, provided the students with general information about the institution’s structure and operations in the conference hall. Subsequently, the students toured the offices within the facility and were introduced to the activities of the Probation and Parole Directorate. The students witnessed firsthand the work carried out by the Probation and Parole Directorate, which conducts educational and rehabilitation activities—including various seminars, group work, social activities, and courses—aimed at monitoring, rehabilitating, and reintegrating individuals under supervision back into society.
Commenting on the field trip, Ali Altunbaş, Lecturer and Chair of the Law Department at GAÜN Oğuzeli Vocational School, stated: “We teach many law courses as part of the Correctional and Security Services program at our school. While the vast majority of these courses are taught theoretically, the structure of vocational schools means that theoretical learning alone is insufficient; it is essential to demonstrate how the information taught is applied in the workplace. We organize field trips to see the practical application of the knowledge we teach in class, with the aim of helping students solidify their understanding.”
Dr. Ali Balkan, Lecturer in the Department of Law at GAÜN Oğuzeli Vocational School, added, “One of the potential work areas for our students graduating from the Correctional and Security Services program is Probation Offices. Through this field trip, our students have learned about the structure and activities of this institution, which will be their future workplace,” he said.
Prof. Dr. Memet Şahin, Director of the GAÜN Oğuzeli Vocational School, spoke about the importance of field trips for students and thanked Gaziantep Probation Director Vedat Zencir and his staff for their contributions.
