"THE RIGHT TO A DEFENSE AND THE LEGAL PROFESSION" TALK AT GAÜN

A talk titled “The Right to Defense and the Legal Profession” was held at the Oğuzeli Vocational School of Gaziantep University (GAÜN).

Coordinated by GAÜN Oğuzeli Vocational School faculty members Lecturer Ali Altunbaş and Lecturer Ayşe Bahar, the talk was attended by students from the Department of Law’s Justice and Criminal Enforcement and Security Services programs.

Attorney Ali Tümbaş of the Gaziantep Bar Association served as the speaker at the event, where he discussed the legal profession and its contributions to the right to defense. Attorney Ali Tümbaş stated, “Whether you become a law graduate through vertical transfer after graduation or begin your career directly in courts or correctional institutions, what you must do is continue to develop yourself. Personal development—such as learning a foreign language or improving your computer skills—will make you more valuable. While performing your duties, you must never forget to respect human rights. Whether we are representing the plaintiff or the defendant, we lawyers exist to defend their rights,” he said.

Prof. Dr. Memet Şahin, Director of Oğuzeli Vocational School, emphasized that both GAÜN and Oğuzeli Vocational School place importance on social awareness projects, “During Human Rights Week, our school’s law department organized a discussion for our students on the right to defense—one of the fundamental human rights—and the legal profession. We wanted to raise awareness on this issue. I would like to thank everyone who contributed,” he said.
