Gaziantep University (GAÜN) At the Oğuzeli Vocational School, under the coordination of the Department of Law, a conference titled “The Right to a Fair Trial and the Right to Defense in the Context of Human Rights” was delivered by Gaziantep Bar Association President Attorney İskender Kahraman to mark December 10, World Human Rights Day.
The conference, organized in collaboration with the GAÜN Oğuzeli Vocational School, the Oğuzeli District Governor’s Office, and the Gaziantep Bar Association, featured an opening address by Prof. Dr. Memet Şahin, who delivered the opening remarks, said, “May December 10, Human Rights Day—the day the Universal Declaration of Human Rights was adopted, on which being human is the sole criterion without discrimination based on race, religion, language, or gender—be celebrated. As the Oğuzeli Vocational School of Gaziantep University, we embrace all our students every year with the love of a family, grounded in universal human rights. I hope that the light of love we kindle in our youth will pave the way for all of humanity to live in peace, equality, and justice in the future,” he said.
Gaziantep Bar Association President Attorney İskender Kahraman emphasized the importance of human rights in his lecture. Attorney İskender said the following in his speech: “Human rights are the inalienable rights of people. One of the most important of these rights is the right to a fair trial and the right to a defense. These fundamental rights are enshrined both in the United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights and in our Constitution. As bar associations and as attorneys, we are working to ensure the right to a fair trial and the right to a defense. Through numerous commissions within our Bar Associations—particularly the Human Rights, Women’s Rights, and Children’s Rights Commissions—we are working directly to protect human rights and ensure these rights are safeguarded.”
Department Chair and Lecturer Ali Altunbaş stated that Oğuzeli Vocational School organized this event to raise social awareness of the importance of human rights.
At the conclusion of the event, Oğuzeli Vocational School Director Prof. Dr. Memet Şahin presented Gaziantep Bar Association President Attorney İskender with flowers and a plaque in commemoration of the day. The conference, which featured Gaziantep Bar Association President Kahraman as a speaker, drew significant interest from institutional heads, political party representatives, and students in Oğuzeli, who actively participated by asking questions.
