Students in the Justice Program at Gaziantep University (GAÜN) Oğuzeli Vocational School organized an event as part of the Social Awareness Project to raise public awareness and promote understanding regarding environmental cleanup and health. Coordinated by GAÜN instructors Ali Altunbaş and Ayşe Dürüye Bahar, the event saw students distribute handouts and brochures on environmental and health topics to shopkeepers and residents in the Oğuzeli district.
Instructor Ali Altunbaş, noting that they had organized a similar event last year on the pandemic and environmental health, Ali Altunbaş stated, “Although the pandemic has lost its impact this year, environmental cleanliness and health remain important issues at all times; therefore, we prepared posters and brochures with our students to raise public awareness about environmental cleanliness and health in our district. Our students also visited local businesses and schools to distribute the brochures and hang up the posters,” he said. Instructor Ayşe Dürüye Bahar also noted that environmental cleanliness has significant effects on health, which is why they wanted to continue the event they held last year with the students.
Prof. Memet Şahin, Director of Oğuzeli MYO, emphasized that the school places great importance on environmental health, stating, “Our faculty members and students aim to raise public awareness through various activities like these to ensure this is achieved even outside the school. Our goal is to live in a healthier society within a cleaner environment,” he said.
