Students from the Occupational Health and Safety Program at Gaziantep University (GAÜN) Oğuzeli Vocational School organized a field trip to the 25 December Panorama Museum with the support of the Gaziantep Metropolitan Municipality’s Directorate of Youth Services and Sports.
Conducted as part of GAÜN’s Social Awareness Projects and coordinated by Assistant Professor Derya Çevik Taşdemir, the field trip provided information on the historical fabric of the city of Gaziantep. Noting that the field trip aimed to help first-year university students integrate into the city and gain a thorough understanding of its historical fabric, Assistant Professor Derya Çevik Taşdemir stated, “We aim to counteract the negative effects of being isolated from university and social life due to the devastating impact of COVID-19 by organizing a visit to the December 25 Panorama Museum, which can be considered a strategic site for the city and its history,” she said.
Prof. Dr. Memet Şahin, Director of the Oğuzeli Vocational School, also noted that the knowledge students gain from such field trips strengthens their sociocultural awareness, fosters integration between city and university life, and enables students to get to know the city they live in better. Prof. Dr. Şahin said, “We will continue to organize these types of social, cultural, and technical field trips—which we were forced to suspend during the pandemic—as much as possible, both as Gaziantep University and as the Oğuzeli Vocational School.”
