Gaziantep University (GAÜN) Oğuzeli Vocational School (MYO) Penitentiary and Security Services Program organized a career day event titled “Correctional Officer as a Career Path in Penitentiary Institutions” for first- and second-year students at the Oğuzeli MYO Conference Hall.
Coordinated by Lecturer Dr. Ali Balkan, the event featured Hasan Canyurt, Director of the Gaziantep Open Correctional Facility, who met with students to highlight the role and importance of correctional officer positions in their professional lives. Topics discussed at the event included entry requirements for the profession, challenges encountered, opportunities for career advancement, the responsibilities of the profession, and the importance of discipline.
Sharing his thoughts on the event, Lecturer Dr. Ali Balkan stated, “Our goal in organizing this event was to ensure that our students in the Correctional and Security Services program could put their theoretical knowledge into practice. We aimed for our students to gain valuable insights into the real-world applications of the profession from a manager who possesses extensive experience in the field and has successfully climbed the career ladder.”
Prof. Dr. Tuba Direkçi, Director of the Oğuzeli Vocational School, emphasized the great importance of hands-on training in preparing students for the workforce, stating, “Events like this will help our students gain a more realistic perspective on their professional lives. I would like to thank Hasan Canyurt, Director of the Gaziantep Open Prison, for his contributions,” she said.
