HUMAN RIGHTS CONFERENCE AT OĞUZELİ VOCATIONAL COLLEGE

HUMAN RIGHTS CONFERENCE AT OĞUZELİ VOCATIONAL SCHOOL

Gaziantep University (GAÜN) Oğuzeli Vocational School hosted a conference titled “Human Rights and the Rule of Law” as part of the Social Awareness Project. Bülent Duran, President of the Gaziantep Bar Association, participated in the conference as a speaker.

Speaking at the conference, which was coordinated by Ali Altunbaş and Ayşe Bahar, instructors in the Law Department at Oğuzeli Vocational School, Attorney Bülent Duran addressed the topics of human rights and the rule of law. Duran noted that, according to the Constitution, the state consists of three main branches—legislative, executive, and judicial—and emphasized that one of the most fundamental duties of the judicial branch is to guarantee the right to a fair trial. Duran also stated that bar associations and attorneys play a critical role in ensuring the effective exercise of the right to defense, adding, “For this reason, attorneys are among the most important defenders of human rights.”

Sharing concrete examples of cases and initiatives undertaken by the Gaziantep Bar Association in the field of human rights—particularly regarding women’s and children’s rights—Attorney Duran explained that the bar association provides voluntary legal support to victims of human rights violations.

Commenting on the conference, Prof. Dr. Tuba Direkci, Director of the Oğuzeli Vocational School, said, “As part of Human Rights and Democracy Week on December 10, we organized this event to raise awareness about ‘human rights and the rule of law.’ I would like to thank Gaziantep Bar Association President Attorney Bülent Duran for his valuable contributions, as well as all our faculty members who contributed to this event.”

At the conclusion of the conference, Prof. Dr. Tuba Direkci, Director of Oğuzeli Vocational School, presented Attorney Bülent Duran with a plaque in commemoration of the event.
