CONFERENCE ON COMBATING VIOLENCE HELD AT GAÜN

Gaziantep University (GAÜN) Oğuzeli Vocational School organized a conference titled “Violence Against Women and Animals” to raise social awareness.

Speaking at the opening of the event, School Director Prof. Dr. Tuba Direkçi noted that violence against women and animals is a serious social problem that affects not only individuals but society as a whole, and stated that the Oğuzeli Vocational School will continue its efforts to raise awareness in this area.

Organized under the coordination of Research Assistant Büşra Öztekîn with the participation of academics, students, and industry representatives, the conference brought together experts in the field to address the psychological, social, legal, and institutional dimensions of violence.

Associate Professor Dr. Zeynep Köse of Hasan Kalyoncu University delivered a comprehensive presentation on the psychological dynamics of violence, its effects on individuals and society, and preventive approaches. Dr. Şeyma Sevgican Yardımcı, General Coordinator of KAGİDEM, detailed the roles of local governments and civil society organizations in combating violence against women. Nihal Sabak, Director of ŞÖNİM, explained the protective and preventive services provided in the field, the application processes, and emergency support mechanisms. Nurcan Murat from Hasan Kalyoncu University offered insights into the social roots of violence and potential solutions from a social work perspective.
