A conference titled “A Gateway to Industry: Career Tips for Young People” was held at the Oğuzeli Vocational School of Gaziantep University (GAÜN).
The conference was organized under the coordination of Prof. Dr. Sadettin Paksoy, Chair of the Department of Management and Organization; Dr. Derya Çevik Taşdemir, Assistant Professor; and Dr. Ayşe Nur Mercan, Lecturer. Miraç Halı Board Members Hakan Emre Mercan, Mesut Karademir, and Mehmet Gürcü, who participated as speakers at the event, shared their experiences regarding professional life and offered advice on career planning with the students.
Hakan Emre Mercan urged students not to give up in the face of challenges and not to settle for just a diploma. Emphasizing the importance of continuous learning and personal development, Mercan noted that learning a foreign language provides a significant advantage in global competition. “Think differently, act differently. Only then can you stand out from the crowd,” he said, inspiring the students.
Mehmet Gürcü addressed the potential challenges students might face when looking for work after graduation, noting that rejection is not the end but a stepping stone for growth. He told the students they should continue on their path without giving up.
Mesut Karademir, meanwhile, emphasized the importance of being knowledgeable about the vision, field of activity, and corporate culture of the organization one wishes to work for. “Know where you’re applying. A candidate who researches and comes prepared is always one step ahead,” he said, guiding the students.
Prof. Dr. Atilla Ahmet Uğur, Director of the GAÜN Oğuzeli Vocational School, noted that bringing students together with the business world contributes to their professional development and provides an opportunity to build strong ties between industry and the university. He also stated that they would continue to organize such events in the coming period, increasing both their number and scope.
