
Students in the Correctional and Security Services Program of the Department of Law at the Oğuzeli Vocational School of Gaziantep University (GAÜN) received hands-on professional training as part of a technical field trip organized to the Kahramanmaraş Training Center of the Ministry of Justice’s Correctional Institutions.
Organized by GAÜN Lecturers Dr. Ali Balkan, Ali Altunbaş, and Hasan Fehmi Gidergelmez, the field trip began with Judge İlknur Görgel, Director of the Training Center, first gave a presentation to the students covering the basic principles of correctional officer duties, common challenges, and practical examples from the field.
Later in the tour, the students participated in a three-stage hands-on training process. During the morning session, security devices used in correctional facilities, as well as search and cell search procedures, were demonstrated hands-on. In the second training session in the afternoon, a potential riot scenario in a cell block was simulated, and students were given hands-on experience in suppressing the riot and applying intervention methods. Finally, professional intervention training was conducted using shields, helmets, batons, and “robocop” uniforms.
In his assessment of the technical visit, Lecturer Dr. Ali Balkan stated, “The Kahramanmaraş Training Center for Correctional Institutions is one of the most important educational partners in our correctional program. I would like to thank the Director of the Training Center, Judge İlknur Görgel, as well as the entire staff, for their contributions and support.”
GAÜN Oğuzeli Vocational School Director Prof. Dr. Memet Şahin, meanwhile, emphasized the importance of such field trips, which allow students to reinforce their theoretical knowledge with practical application, and noted that similar activities will continue.
