Gaziantep University (GAÜN) Students from the Correctional and Security Services Program at the Oğuzeli Vocational School organized a technical field trip to the Gaziantep Probation and Parole Directorate under the coordination of Lecturer Ali Altunbaş and Lecturer Dr. Ali Balkan.
During the visit, Probation Officer Yunus Kurt gave a presentation to the students on the institution’s operations and the purpose of probation. Kurt noted that probation is implemented with objectives such as crime prevention, the reintegration of convicts into society, and the rehabilitation of substance abusers. The presentation explained that court-ordered decisions are carried out through various means, including community service, supervision, mandatory reporting, and treatment.
The students then toured the facility’s units to observe the practices firsthand. In the final segment of the technical tour, Erol Acar, Director of Probation, provided information on the institution’s activities and the qualifications required of staff, while also offering career advice to the students.
Oğuzeli Vocational School Director Prof. Dr. Memet Şahin, in his statement regarding the field trip, emphasized the cooperation between the university and the institution, saying, “We value these types of field trips as they allow our students to reinforce their theoretical knowledge in the field. I would like to thank Probation Director Mr. Erol Acar and the entire staff for their hospitality.”
